Define the question and corpus

A useful map starts with a question: which sites structure a topic, which sources are cited together, which actors connect communities, or which areas remain poorly documented?

Choose seed sites and explain their role. Set depth, maximum pages, excluded domains and the observation period. These limits are part of the result.

Build a co-citation arena

In Nexus co-link mode, an investigation starts from seed sites, follows outbound links and retains domains cited by several seeds. A node represents a domain actor; an edge A → B means A cites B. Citation frequency shows which domains appear across several neighborhoods.

The analysis mode should accompany the result. Co-link finds domains cited by several seeds; snowball expands the neighborhood step by step; inter-actor observes citations among seed sites; sentiment qualifies citation tone. These outputs answer different questions.

Read indicators with care

PageRank indicates centrality in the constructed network. Betweenness identifies nodes located on many paths. Community methods such as Louvain reveal structural groups.

Nexus also calculates structural measures such as k-core, participation, harmonic closeness and source concentration. Some measures may be unavailable: a missing result remains “not calculated” and is never artificially converted to zero.

Each metric measures a precise structural dimension. Trust, editorial quality and offline influence require complementary evidence; interpretation depends on the corpus, link type and collection parameters.

Connect network structure to SEO opportunities

When the crawl produces a usable text corpus, Nexus can group documents by similarity, surface themes and identify coverage gaps. Opportunities are weighted by observed centrality in the arena: they prioritize editorial investigation rather than guarantee rankings.

The “citations in the arena” lens shows which domains are cited by the sites actually crawled. The denominator remains visible: a map with hundreds of domains may rely on far fewer pages that were actually read.

Separate calculated from estimated outputs

Graph measures, citation counts and deterministic corpus analysis are calculated outputs. SEO narratives, value propositions or model-generated interpretations are estimated outputs and retain the provider name.

This separation matters for GEO: a synthesis is more useful when readers can retrieve the corpus, calculation rules and limits. Estimated status remains explicit in the final wording.
